Life with Derek is a half-hour comedy series about a modern blended family, with two type-A 15 year-olds, Casey (Ashley Leggat) and Derek (Michael Seater) battling it out to take control of the situation.

The series takes place mostly in the home George Venturi and his three children Edwin (11), Marti (6) and Derek (15) now share with Nora MacDonald and her two children Lizzie (10) and Casey (15). As the series opens, three weeks have passed since the wedding. Casey is not only adjusting to her new living quarters, she also must attend the same high school as Derek.

Casey’s control-freak nature conceals a relatively nice person who wants what we all secretly want: what she wants. But nothing has prepared her for Derek. Derek’s a small- time Napoleon. When Casey arrives and refuses to toe the line, he sets out to quash the rebellion. But Derek’s underestimated his opponent. Casey hasn’t been brow-beaten from an early age like his younger brother Edwin, and has no intention of surrendering. Thus each episode is another clash of the Titans – someone may win the day but no one can win the war. The fact that Casey and Derek are polar opposites in character and style only makes the struggles more challenging.

Their siblings are caught in the middle and change sides depending on the issue or the size of the bribe. Casey’s sister Lizzie stubbornly insists on making her own decisions and must be tricked or cajoled. Derek’s brother Edwin has been trained to follow but has never had options before (or a possible ally). Their little sister Marti at 6 is unpredictable, and usually not worth recruiting.

It may take some time for everyone to adjust to Life With Derek!
